Mug Hen Has Chicks: Baby Mugwumps!

I heard the Mug hen talking as I passed so I checked underneath her and her eggs were hatching.

I was finally able to get this chicken to my grandson today.  This is one of the most friendly chickens anywhere.  I'll miss her but she'll have a much better home where she won't have to hide from scary roosters all the time.   I also gave him a Buff Cochin bantam rooster.

These chicks seem to be Thai cross. The last time I checked there were 3 unhatched eggs still in the nest..

I like the stance of the Mug hen with her long legs and sleek shape.  The cross between her and the Thai Gamefowl should be a good product with their similar traits.  I might call them 'T-mugs'.  If they come out ok I probably will use the Kentucky Dom hen in a cross with them since the K-Doms have Mugwump in their makeup.

The orphan chicks are getting their first feathers...

When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendant will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, "See! This our father did for us." -John Ruskin
